What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website saves in your browser, and browser storage is their close cousin. They exist so a site can remember things between page loads: that you are the same visitor who was here a minute ago, that you already passed the age gate, that you muted your camera last time. Without a few of them, a service like 1v1ChatMatch simply cannot work — every page load would be a first visit. This page lists what we set and why, and explains how to refuse or remove them.
Essential cookies — the ones that keep the lights on
A small set of cookies and storage entries is required for the service to function. They hold your guest or signed-in session so the matchmaker knows where to place you, remember that you confirmed your age, and keep basic preferences such as camera and microphone choices. These do not track you anywhere and they carry no advertising payload. If you block them, matching, calls, and sign-in will break, so the site treats them as non-optional.
Analytics cookies
We use analytics to understand, in aggregate, how the site is used: which pages get read, how long visits last, what devices and browsers people arrive on, and roughly which countries they come from. The reports we look at are statistics, not identities — we see that a page had visitors, not that a specific person read it. Analytics helps us decide what to fix and what to write next, and it is the closest thing to tracking that exists on 1v1ChatMatch.
How long each kind lives
Session cookies die when you close the browser — they exist to carry one visit from page to page and then they are gone. Preference entries live longer, typically months, because forgetting your camera choice every visit would be annoying. Analytics identifiers sit somewhere in between, long enough to recognize a returning visitor, short enough that we are not keeping a diary. The exact lifetimes change as browsers tighten their own rules, and modern browsers increasingly cap them whether we ask or not — a direction we are happy with.
What we do not set
There is no third-party advertising on 1v1ChatMatch, which means no ad-network cookies, no retargeting pixels, and no cross-site profiling tags from us. Nothing on our pages follows you around the internet afterwards, and no advertiser receives a dossier built from your visits here. If you ever see advertising cookies arriving from our domain, that is a bug or an impostor, and we want to hear about it at [email protected].
Browser storage beyond cookies
Modern browsers offer storage beyond classic cookies — local storage and similar mechanisms. 1v1ChatMatch uses these for the same humble jobs: remembering interface preferences, keeping a flag that you have already seen an introduction, and holding small bits of session state that make the site feel continuous instead of amnesiac. Clearing your browser's site data removes all of it along with the cookies.
How to refuse or remove cookies
Every mainstream browser lets you block or delete cookies, usually under Settings, then Privacy or Site Settings. You can block all cookies, block only third-party ones, or clear everything for a specific site — ours included. Blocking analytics cookies costs you nothing and changes nothing about your matches. Blocking essential cookies will prevent matching and sign-in from working. On a shared computer, clearing site data when you finish is also the simplest way to leave no trace of your visit.
Changes to this policy
If we add a new cookie or retire an old one, we update this page and move the date at the top. We do not expect the list to grow much — the service needs less from your browser than most sites you used this week.
